Ru Paul is not Trans*; he is a cross dresser. There’s nothing wrong with that but he’s not transgender. That’s not misgendering him – he says he prefers male pronouns. And I don’t care whether or not he says that the word “tranny” is OK to use, because he’s not transgender. 

He dresses up as a girl. I am a girl. There’s a significant difference between the two.

They may not be the same kind of trans as YOU, they may not be transexual or transgender, but they are certainly under the larger trans* umbrella.
