South trail, Kärsön, Stockholm
Here in Sweden, it seems to be another ‘wolf winter’—a ‘vargvinter’ in Swedish, dominated by cold, snowy periods. The wolves themselves are coming down from the northern packs and have been spotted in Stockholm suburbs. On Kärsön, a small island in Lake Mälaren west of the city, it’s not difficult to imagine a wolf waiting around the curve on this trail. Daylight is in short supply. The walker picks up his pace, feeling a rush of wild blood that is equal parts joy and fear.
