My old dreadies! #dreadlocks about 21 here #tbt #throwbackthursday

I loooove the look of dreadlocks, I just can’t imagine not washing my hair for long enough to make it happen. Doesn’t your scalp start to itch? How do you manage the oil, keep from getting bugs, etc?

It doesn’t have anything to do with not washing your hair!! I washed my hair at least 3 times a week, and the shampoo you have to use to keep them super clean is better than any shampoo you can buy at a store. And the way you get them in there is by backcombing the hair and then rubberbanding it to get it to stay in place until it locks up. Mine locked up pretty quick, it’s really thick and coarse.

Oh wow! I was always told you had to not wash your hair for like 3 weeks, then start manually twisting it.

Now I’ll have to do some more research. Thanks for replying! would be somewhere good to start! That’s where I got my shampoo and wax. Be warned, after I first had them done, I hated them for about 6 months, but then they finally fully tightened and looked good. This picture, they were almost 3 years old. Just take good care of them and don’t swim or anything or they will come loose. And the dreading process is killer, I had to drink a lot to get over the pain. It was terrible. Luckily, my boyfriend had had dreads before, and he knew how to put them in and take care of them, so I didn’t have to pay anyone to do it for me.

Awesome. I found a few sites that explained the process in greater detail, and I bookmarked your suggestion.

I have several hats to deal with the awkward early timeperiod, so now it’s just time for me to get my stuff and get started. ^^
